Kestrel Viaduct

A new rail viaduct across a river valley. We drove the piles, cast the piers and placed a precast deck from above.

What we built

Bored piles in the valley floor, tall concrete piers on top, and a deck made of precast segments. Drainage and parapets went in last.

The hard part

The river and its banks under the main span could not take plant. So nothing could be lifted from below.

How we did it

Every deck segment was placed from the deck already built, using a launching girder. Our own crews ran the girder and the pours.
